Unique Pizza and Subs Promotes Healthy Workplace With Smoke-Free Policy

PITTSBURGH, Jul 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) -- Unique Pizza and Subs Corporation (PinkSheets:UPZS), a Delaware Corporation, is pleased to announce the implementation of a completely smoke-free environment for its headquarters, as well as all franchise locations across the United States. As the only publicly traded pizza company with a smoke-free policy, Unique Pizza and Subs is putting itself at the leading edge of a movement that has been growing throughout many states and places of business. The American Lung Association has challenged all states in America to be smoke-free by the year 2010, and Unique Pizza and Subs is fully in support of the initiative, and intends to move forward with its own policy immediately.
Unique Pizza and Subs has recently filed a new Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC) in over forty states requiring all existing and future locations to have a "no smoking policy" as part of their franchise agreement. This policy includes all employees and customers, to promote and enforce a no smoking policy anywhere inside a Unique Pizza and Subs location. The objective is to promote the healthiest environment possible for all employees and customers, increase productivity and help to eliminate second-hand smoke inhalation, which kills 38,000 Americans yearly. The company believes in the policy so strongly, that it intends to donate a percentage of profits from the sale of every one of its Unique 25-inch "The Neighborhood" pizzas to the American Lung Association. In an effort to help build awareness of this worthy cause, UPZS will add the American Lung Association branded logo onto their signature "The Neighborhood" pizza box.

Jack Carroll, Unique Pizza and Subs' Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales, lost his mother recently to lung cancer caused by smoking. He stated, "This is a policy that all of us at Unique Pizza and Subs believe very strongly in, and we are willing to do our part to contribute to the worthy cause of the American Lung Association. We hope other businesses will follow our lead and make an effort to fight lung cancer and promote a healthier environment in their own organizations."

Unique Pizza and Subs is raising the standard in becoming the first publicly traded pizza franchise with a smoke-free policy. The fact remains that more than 440,000 people die from tobacco-related illnesses each year and Unique Pizza and Subs would like to take part in helping to reduce this very preventable disease.
