Pizza chain plans 36 locations in Wisconsin by 2007

Pittsburgh Business Times - May 18, 2006
Unique Pizza and Subs Corp. said that its Milwaukee franchisee hopes to have 36 Unique Pizza and Subs locations in Wisconsin generating $12.6 million in annual sales by the end of 2007.

The Pittsburgh-based pizza and submarine sandwich restaurant chain said it expects to open the first location in the Milwaukee area by mid- to late-summer of this year, which would be its first in the Midwest. The company's plan is to convert existing stores to expand their presence in the market.

The plan for the Milwaukee area, announced late Wednesday, includes the opening of five new locations and the conversion of 31 existing locations across Wisconsin by the end of 2007. Milwaukee franchisee John Budzinski is targeting locations in the Milwaukee, Madison and Oshkosh areas.

The entry and expansion into Milwaukee and Wisconsin is part of Unique Pizza and Subs' national expansion plan announced in April to serve up 1,000 new locations within five years.

Unique Pizza (Pink Sheets: UPZS) is pursuing the conversion of mom-and-pop pizza shops to the Unique Pizza and Subs brand, hoping to capitalize on the hundreds of independent pizza joints nationwide that struggle to build value in their businesses beyond the equipment and the real estate.
